Carterton, West Oxfordshire
DLA Architects Practice’s design for 135 new homes in a range of sizes and configurations is a high-quality contemporary interpretation of the regional stone-and-slate vernacular in this part of the Cotswolds. This is the first phase of a long-term project to upgrade the sprawling residential hinterland of the Brize Norton air base. Unusually, this was a ‘complete design’ commission with bespoke timber framed house types and a comprehensive design remit which produced a fully detailed tender package let as a fixed price contract.
Thorpe Lea Road, Egham
Commissioned by Muse Developments, DLA Architects Practice’s 220 dwelling design for this greenbelt site resulted in its allocation in Runnymede Borough Council’s Local Plan, contributing significantly to the 5-year housing supply. The 5Ha site is located adjacent to the M25 and from the outset, acoustics and air quality were vital masterplan considerations. DLA AP’s proposals deliver a broad range of dwelling sizes and tenures with a hierarchy of public and private spaces. Full planning application was lodged in February 2019.
Gunhill, Aldershot
This 107 dwelling development for Grainger is part of Aldershot’s new Wellesley settlement. DLA Architects Practice’s role was to develop incomplete designs into fully compliant and buildable solutions. This is primarily a PRS project with some Affordable and comprises 5-storey blocks of apartments and 3 storey semi-detached ‘villa’ houses. The brief was complicated by a requirement that accommodation can switch from one form of tenure to another. Apartment blocks are brick-clad concrete frames while the houses are traditionally constructed.
